This is the stuff of fevered imaginations. Theatre company Punchdrunk has taken over a disused warehouse in Wapping and turned it into a surreal 1950s fantasy based on Goethe's tale. Forget linear narrative: here the audience wanders at will, wearing white masks for anonymity, through a moody labyrinth, following whichever character piques their interest. One minute youre groping through a chilly forest, the next you stumble across sex and violence in a bar. It's damn powerful stuff. But don't go expecting theatre in any normal sense this is as much about what your own mind conjures up as what the director wants you to see. An immersive experience like no other.
